These people surely have good intentions behind those statements but both are focusing on what they don’t want. A much more powerful way to set their outcomes would be to say: “In the next 3 months I will focus on eating healthier so that I can lose 5 pounds of excess weight and gain more energy.”
Notice how that outcome is measurable (3 months, 5 pounds) and is stated in the positive. This will enable your “mind’s eye” to see where it needs to achieve.
